Upgrading A Sky+ Box

At the weekend I upgraded my parents’ Sky+ box, a Pace 3100 PVR2.

It normally comes with a pathetically small 40GB hard drive… I’ve replaced that with a 250GB Samsung V120CE from Ultratec. I also had to buy a special screwdriver set as the Pace box uses tamper-proof Torx screws (T10H).

I followed most of the instructions here, except for the Full System Reset, instead of that I used the awesome Copy+ software I linked to in my SideBlog.

It copied over all the recorded programmes plus all the entries in the planner for upcoming shows. Which saved a lot of time and effort having to re-add them all, and nothing was lost.

Now they’ve got 6x the space they had before… which means they can record a hell of a lot more than they could! No more running out of space all the time and losing stuff they hadn’t gotten around to watching.
