Impressed With WordPress

I just realised that I never posted about my migration from Movable Type to WordPress after my previous entry about considering doing so.

Over the course of a few months at the end of 2011 I started the migration process. I set up a temporary test server, installed WordPress, imported all my old entries and comments from MT, and started the arduous task of editing my theme into the WordPress format. Really that was the most time-consuming part, everything else went smoothly. I also had to make sure all my permalinks stayed the same so that incoming links wouldn’t get broken.

I can’t remember now when I actually put the WordPress version of my site live, but I think it was before Christmas. Other than the comments now being powered by IntenseDebate, the site should look exactly the same now as it did on Movable Type with the added bonus of actually working!

I should’ve migrated years ago.

  1. WordPress really has come leaps and bounds in the last 2 years or so, I'm using it now for customer sites that I would have used the likes of Drupal, Joomla or DotNetNuke for in the past. You won't regret moving 🙂

Loving the consistent look and feel across the migrations by the way, good work well done.
