How Business Is Really Done

Jack, a smart businessman, talks to his son.

Jack: I want you to marry a girl of my choice.

Son: I will choose my own bride.

Jack: But the girl is Bill Gates’ daughter.

Son: Well, in that case…

Next Jack approaches Bill Gates

Jack: I have a husband for your daughter.

Bill Gates: But my daughter is too young to marry.

Jack: But this young man is a vice-president of the World Bank.

Bill Gates: Ah, in that case……

Finally Jack goes to see the president of the World Bank.

Jack: I have a young man to be recommended as a vice-president.

President: But I already have more vice-presidents than I need.

Jack: But this young man is Bill Gates’s son-in-law.

President: Ah, in that case…..

Update

My dad is trying to book a flight out of the UK to head to Portugal to survey the damage (of which there isn’t much, amazingly), and to rescue my mum from her worry I imagine.

I don’t know how she must’ve been feeling knowing that everything they’ve worked for/on over there might soon be burnt to the ground. All gone.

Thankfully the villa is safe, and I can rest easy now.

Once my parents both return I should have a load of pictures of the fire and the state of the villa after the passing of the fires. I’ll post them as soon as I get them.

Forest Fires In Portugal

As many of you might already know, my family owns a villa in Portugal. In an idyllic part of the Algarve, pretty untouched by tourists, surrounded by rolling hillside and protected cork trees.

The summers there can get up into the 40s easily, but it mostly stays in the high 30s. This year is no exception, as the sun blazes down, drying out the ground and plant life.

Many fires have broken out across Spain and Portugal, and the firefighters from both countries are working flat out trying to get them under control. Italy and Greece have also sent planes, helicopters and firemen into the stricken countries to help.

Trip Photos

Two things I suppose I should’ve mentioned are the locations of my photo galleries, showing my most recent trip to Canada and meeting all the tubbers (regulars to the DALnet IRC channel #hottub) at the 2004 Canada Day Party.

The first URL you need is http://gallery.zquack.net/. If you want the latest photos that I took, click on the Canada 2004 album.

The second URL is http://www.loungecity.net/gallery/. Specifically the Canada Hottub Party 2004 album. But you can also check out the other albums on there, I still have to add pics from 2002 but they should be forthcoming 🙂

Enjoy!

New MT Version

Looks like Movable Type 3.1 is due soon, and judging by the upcoming features on top of all the new ones included in the Developer releases of 3.x so far, it looks like it’ll outdo all the competition, hands down.

The 2 features I am most looking forward to are: Dynamic PHP publishing and the Notifier.

I can’t wait!

Yay!

I just found out what day work gives us off at Christmas. Every year our company has something called a Statutory Day, which is a day off at Christmas time decided on by the Partners. This year they’ve chosen the 24th (Christmas Eve), which isn’t normally a public or bank holiday in this country so we’d usually have to come in, but this year we get the 24th off work.

These Words

This is my favourite song of the moment…

These Words by Natasha Bedingfield

Threw some chords together

The combination D-E-F

It’s who I am, it’s what I do

And I was gonna let it down for you

I tried to focus my attention

But I feel so A.D.D.

I need some help, some inspiration

(But it’s not coming easily)

Tryn’a to find the magic

Tryn’a to write a classic

Don’t you know, don’t you know, don’t you know?

Wastebin full of paper

Clever rhymes, see you later

These words are my own

From my heart flown

I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you!

There’s no other way

To better say

I love you, I love you.

Read some Byron, Shelly and Keats

Recited it over a hip-hop beat

I’m having trouble saying what I mean

With dead poets and drum machines

I know I had some studio time booked

But I couldn’t find the killa hook

Now you’ve gone and raised the bar right up

Nothin’ I write is ever good enough

These words are my own

From my heart flown

I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you!

There’s no other way

To better say

I love you, I love you.

I’m gettin’ off my stage

The curtains pull away

No hyperbole to hide behind

My naked soul exposed

Whoah.. oh.. oh.. oh.. Whoah.. oh..

Tryn’a to find the magic

Tryn’a to write a classic

Wastebin full of paper

Clever rhymes, see you later

These words are my own

From my heart flown

I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you!

There’s no other way

To better say

I love you, I love you, is that okay?
