Saving Daylight

Well it’s that time of year again… when the clocks go forward an hour. For those of us in Britain, ours already have, but for those in Canada or the US then they have another week to wait… until next year.

In Britain (and the rest of Europe that follows DST), the clocks go forward an hour on the last Sunday of March, and back an hour on the last Sunday in October. (This will not be changing!!)

In Canada and the US things are a little more complicated – mainly because the countries are so vast and they span many timezones, with some states/provinces/territories covering 2 timezones. In spite of this, the majority of the country does follow DST, and go forward an hour on the first Sunday in April and go back on the last Sunday in October. In 2007, however, this will all change!

Beginning in 2007, the United States will start DST on the second Sunday in March, and change back to standard time on the first Sunday in November. Indiana should have formally adopted DST in 2006, although which timezone your county falls in might’ve changed from EST to CST.

In Canada, the governments of Ontario, Manitoba, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Alberta have pledged to change their daylight saving rules to match the US. From 2007, their DST will also start on the second Sunday of March, and return to standard time on the first Sunday in November.

Hopefully all the confusion in the US and Canada will have been sorted out by the time March 2007 comes along, otherwise there will be a lot of very disoriented people wandering around not knowing what the hell the time is!

A good resource for more information about the changes in DST coming up is the Daylight Saving Time article on Wikipedia.

Too Much Rain!

It’s stormed the past 2 days I’ve been in Canadia, and it keeps waking me up in the middle of the night. I was woken at around 5am by thunder and pounding rain and couldn’t get back to sleep. When you’re suffering from jet lag and you’re attempting to get some rest to get rid of it, it’s not very helpful if you can’t actually sleep! ๐Ÿ™

Maybe tonight I’ll have more luck sleeping all the way through.

Go Go Logitech!

After my rant about the lack of decent mice that left handed people can use back in September 2004, I have just discovered that Logitech are advertising a left handed only version of their MX 610 mouse.

At lastโ€”laser precision for lefties only. The MX 610 Left-Hand Laser Cordless Mouse lets left-handed users enjoy the comfort and control of an advanced laser mouse โ€” without compromising their natural work style.

See the mouse here.

Now I just need to find somewhere that sells it!

Two Anniversaries

Today marks the day exactly four years ago when I joined the bit-tech forums. ๐Ÿ™‚

At the time of writing I have made 3,746 posts (and counting) since I signed up. Not as many as some people who’ve been around less time than me, but then I don’t spam quite as much as them. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And in just 4 days time, it will be my 3 year blogiversary. A staggering three years since I started my blog, and in that time it’s gone through a few redesigns and at least 3 domain name changes. It took me a while to find one I was perfectly happy with, and who knows I might get fed up with this one and change it again… but I don’t see that happening in the foreseeable future.

Does it echo? Yes it bloody well does.

Probably the song of the year. It’s out in April and you should buy it. I will.

Friendship

Friendship Between Women:

A woman didn’t come home one night. The next day she told her husband that she had slept over at a friend’s house. The man called his wife’s 10 best friends. None of them knew about it.

Friendship Between Men:

A man didn’t come home one night. The next day he told his wife that he had slept over at a friend’s house. The woman called her husband’s 10 best friends. Eight of them confirmed that he had slept over, and two claimed that he was still there.
